Now, with some help from George Spirou of West Virginia University, these scans can be converted to virtual reality setups and are able to be examined up close. Watkins believes that this method is unique to Pitt and that will be crucial to the future of biology. Read the whole story here: https://bit.ly/2E8XQGt Cell Biology and Molecular Physiology The Cell Biology and Molecular Physiology (CBMP) graduate program is made up of a dynamic group of investigators and students who use the modern-day tools of biochemistry, genetics, imaging, and molecular biology to understand the integrated biology and physiology of cells, organs, and whole animals. Read more Cellular & Molecular Pathology The CMP program integrates cellular and molecular biology with the study of human diseases, often in the context of Regenerative Medicine with translational goals. Utilizing the latest technologies, students in the program have opportunities to study both normal and diseased tissues and cells in order to solve basic and applied research problems. Molecular Genetics & Development Biology The Molecular Genetics and Developmental Biology (MGDB) graduate program provides an exceptionally exciting and vigorous academic environment for highly motivated and qualified students to prepare for a rewarding career in biomedical research. Molecular Pharmacology Biomedical research in the Molecular Pharmacology program is focused on molecular and cellular mechanisms of intracellular signaling using a combination of biochemical, molecular biological, biophysical, ultrastructural, and imaging approaches. Basic information on cellular communication in health and disease provides the basis for the development and testing of novel therapeutic agents APPLICATION TO THE IBGP NO LONGER REQUIRES GRE SCORES The Interdisciplinary Biomedical Graduate Program is designed to: Provide state-of-the-art Research Training that connects 4 key disciplines Build strong mentor-mentee relationships that promote the individual development of graduate students Empower graduate students to explore career opportunities and plan for the long-term Develop professional skills tailored to individual needs and goals of graduate students A University on the move 4th in NIH funding among educational institutions and affiliates. - NIH FY 2019 13th among top medical schools in terms of research excellence - US News and World Report 2019 12 NIH funded T32 training grants that enrich the IBGP environment 16th in total research and development expenditures in 2017, totaling $940 million - NSF 14th globally in the 2019 Performance Ranking of Scientific Papers for World Universities - Higher Education Evaluation & Accreditation Council of Taiwan 4th in NIH funding among educational institutions and affiliates. - NIH FY 2019 13th among top medical schools in terms of research excellence - US News and World Report 2019 12 NIH funded T32 training grants that enrich the IBGP environment 16th in total research and development expenditures in 2017, totaling $940 million - NSF 14th globally in the 2019 Performance Ranking of Scientific Papers for World Universities - Higher Education Evaluation & Accreditation Council of Taiwan Interdisciplinary Curriculum Research Research rotations provide an opportunity to experience individual laboratory environments, including the techniques being used in the laboratory ant the research questions being addressed Practical Skills Development of critical thinking skills is emphasized through an evaluation of experimental evidence and reading ofthe primary literature. Problem-solving and principles in biomedical research are integrated through the analysis of mechanisms underlying biological phenomena. Mentoring A strong sense of community and support is the mainstay of the program. Mentors assigned by the program guide students through the selection of their first year research rotations and courses.
